Opioids are not appropriate migraine treatment

Despite warnings from professional organizations and specialties, opioids continue to be inappropriately prescribed for the treatment of migraines, especially when seen in the Emergency Department. Patients given opioids upon ED visits were more likely to return and had a higher risk of persistent opioid use. Simply stated, opioids should not be used in the vast majority of migraine sufferers.
